"Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself: I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet, I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it."
These words were spoken by that great American sage, Groucho Marx. The determination to be happy plants the seed for a happy life.
The quote sounds exactly like another sage, the Dalai Lama. He teaches that our happiness comes from within.
When you go to hear the Dalai Lama, you have to check your bags with security when you enter. When you determine to be happy, you have to check some important habits of mind at the door: disappointment, blame, cynicism, and self-preoccupation will not be allowed in.
You might want to hang on to your ticket which says. simply, Rejoice.
