Addiction doesn’t just appear with the first use of a drug, it unfolds as a learned, compulsive use of a substance for coping with emotional distress despite recurring negative consequences.

Recovering from addiction requires more than overcoming the physical craving for a substance; it requires new skills for mental balance and emotional self-regulation that allow liberating choice about behavior.

Cultivate Balance
This twenty-hour program is based on the training methods of Cultivating Emotional Balance, aprogram created in response to a request from the Dalai Lamato a group of leading neuroscientists, psychologists, and Buddhist teachers at a conference on destructive emotions in the year 2000.

Tailored specifically for the process of addiction recovery, this training will examine five universal emotions, their functions, how they are triggered, how they are experienced, and how bringing awareness to pivotal points of the process can allow conscious choice about how to engage with an emotion and how to constructively express it.

Doug Veenhof is a certified Cultivating Emotional Balance trainer and teaches meditation around the world, including at the latest 5-week CEB Teacher Training in Australia. He has been studying and practicing meditation for 25 years, and is a former mountain guide, an award-winning journalist, and author.

Robert Simonton had a 35-year career as a senior engineer, research scientist, and executive in the semiconductor industry. He is a student of CEB who has undertaken a multi-decade journey in recovery that has included traditional recovery modalities (the 12 step process, cognitive behavioral therapy) and Buddhist contemplative practices.

The CEB stages of training self-awareness and mental balance are integrated with the familiar processes in traditional recovery modalities, such as 12step processes and cognitive behavioral therapy. The essential role of the powerful tools provided by CEB will be highlighted in an experiential roadmap for addiction recovery.
