Julie Upton recently had the amazing opportunity to live with the illusive Naga Sadhus while she was on her last trip in India. She not only lived with them, but, was brought into the tribe and then given a name within the caste and is now considered a part of that tribe.
Naga Sadhus are the "naked" ascetics who have given up the worldly life. This includes family, money, and clothing (although they do wear a piece of cloth at times) to pursue their mission of samadhi and total enlightenment. Some of them smear their bodies with human ash to remind themselves of the impermanent, illusory nature of reality. They are treated as royalty in India by Hindus when they are amongst the Hindu people during festival time and Julie was brought into that reality and treated as one of them.
Julie will take you on a photographic journey while detailing her story of how it all came about as well as explaining how real yogis of India live and function in modern times.
$15 donation is appreciated. None will be turned away for lack of funds.
